Rocks are a natural material which many of us can use in landscaping our yards. They stay where we put them, weatherproof and it would give our designs a certain natural look, a rugged beauty if you will that never goes out of style.
If you are thinking of landscaping using rocks, you'll first want to come up with a good plan because the big boulders are obviously heavy and once it is placed it will be difficult to move especially without the help of machinery. Once you know where you want to place your boulder, mark out the area using a stick or template of sorts so you can stand back and make sure the area is right.
Some people plant native grasses around their boulder for added beauty, but they are also look great being left alone as part of the landscape.
Smaller rocks are obviously going to be easier to move around, and some of them will cluster a few together to make a pretty design. Annuals planted around the rocks would give colour and can be changed out each year depending on your landscape theme each summer.
Then we come to tiny stones. Beach stones and even much smaller stones that make a lovely pathways or create borders for your flower beds. They keep everything in place and make a great wild plants free barrier between the lawn and the flower beds themselves. You can even use several kinds of stones together for a unique look or use the same colour throughout your design. Best of all the small stones are easy to move and can be use again and again, all you need is a shovel and a wheelbarrow and you're good to go.
Paving stones are also a great additions to your yard. You can make a small stepping stone pathway to a sitting area or into the yard itself. The stones come in many shapes, colours and sizes for you t o choose, because they are natural you can choose to use all of one colour and shape or mix and match colours, shapes and sizes to come up with a truly unique design.
Stones, rocks and boulders won't discolour or shift on you and you can decorate around them however you wish. They make great additions to any type of yard because you can worry free and have a maintenance free existence and they bring a natural beauty to any design.
